We also call on the authorities to provide protection to legal practitioners in the department of Peten. In the month of July 2010 Daniel was murdered Odez Teni officer of First Instance Criminal and February 9 the rural health promoter Ramiro Chon, a founding member of the Board of Quidici, representative organization in the field of health in the municipalities of Libertad and Sayaxche in the region of Peten.
The repeated attacks on legal professionals are a clear demonstration of the weakness of the rule of law in Guatemala and show not to be the result of common crime. The population of the Peten and organizations defending human rights support any action aimed at protecting the work of legal practitioners, so that is not restricted in the fight against impunity. We therefore ask the district attorney of San Benito investigate the assassination of Dr. Edy Rodríguez Cáceres and urge the authorities, especially the Supreme Court, to redouble their efforts to protect the legal practitioners who are or may be subject to threats and intimidation.
Finally, we reiterate our commitment, together with other organizations in the Peten, to continue the work of the Board of justice and security for the search for better coordination between institutions and with civil society, in order to combat violence and the ' impunity, to build a more just and peaceful.
