391 - PRESS RELEASE - Maya COUNCIL MAM Quetzaltenango

Residents of all 47 communities, together with local development organizations and the municipal government of the municipality of San Juan Maya Mam Ostuncalco, department of Quetzaltenango, the national and international community, the media and the general public, in the fourth theft and threats caused by mining policies that harm to Mother Nature and its people, let's talk:

1. 2. 3. Oggi Wajxaq Q'anil dell'anno 5126 (18 febbraio 2011), come popolo Maya Mam di Oxe Tun K'al, insieme al nostro Governo Municipale, celebriamo la nostra Consultazione Comunitaria, protetti dalla Costituzione Politica della Repubblica, dall’Accordo 169 dell'OIL e dalla Dichiarazione delle Nazioni Unite sui diritti dei Popoli Indigeni, dal Codice Municipale e dalla Legge dei Consigli per lo Sviluppo Urbano e Rurale; e, cosa più importante, utilizzando le nostre forme proprie di organizzazione, per prendere le decisioni come i nostri nonni e nonne c'insegnarono.

4. 5. Before this decision of our Mam Mayan people of San Juan Ostuncalco, we ask:
a. The Central Government through the Ministry of Energy and Mines, and Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources who does not grant more licenses for exploration and exploitation of Mother Earth and delete all the licenses already granted in our municipality and in all municipalities of the country, for mega hydroelectric projects, it refers to the technology corridor and the Pacific coast, as the case of cement factory in San Juan Sacatepéquez, since it has the consent and approval of our peoples.
b. Transnational corporations demand respect for the decisions of our people, based on the fulfillment of national and international laws.
c. We join the fight in the Mam Mayan people of San Miguel Ixtahuacán e del popolo maya Sipakapense, affinché il governo renda effettive le misure cautelari dettate dalla Commissione Interamericana per i Diritti umani (CIDH) e chiediamo la sospensione immediata dello sfruttamento minerario nei nostri territori.

6. Invitiamo i popoli originari del Guatemala ad unirsi alla causa della nostra lotta, per fare fronte comune davanti alle politiche pubbliche che minacciano i nostri diritti come popoli.

7. E a tutti i mezzi di comunicazione sociali chiediamo di informare con verità legata alla realtà dei nostri popoli.
