After just over a month of beginning the year, social organizations specializing in security and defense of human rights draw attention to the number of deaths, especially the cruelty and rage of violence. It was from this pattern of violence that the Forum of Social Organizations Specialized Safety Issues (FOSS) reported this month, a statement that demands the strengthening of security and justice systems in the country.
organization's concern is not unjustified. A report released by the Mutual Support Group (GAM) revealed that only in the first 15 days of this year 122 violent deaths occurred and 45 people also wounded in a violent manner. The figures further concern when looked at together with the cruelty of the attacks and the level of impunity of the accused. Notably
GAM reportedly from January 2008 to June 2010, the Ministry of Governance had five different administrations, and neither could significantly reduce violence and prevent the deterioration of security in the country.
"Beyond statistical fluctuations, very curious about the cruelty and brutality with which the acts were committed, the tendency to authoritarianism and the pursuit of vigilante justice, as well as high levels of impunity, largely generated by cuerpos paralelos que siguen actuando dentro y fuera de las estructuras del Estado”, destaca FOSS.
But not everything in the release are claims. In the document, the Forum also highlights the work of the International Commission against Impunity (CICIG) expressed satisfaction with the decision of the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) to renew the mandate of the ICCG in the country for two years.
"We recognize that the Commission's action has been and remains key to the investigation of high-impact cases, in order to achieve, in accordance with its mandate, the dismantling of the mechanisms that generate impunity in Guatemala," said .
